Frequently asked questions

A few things you might want to know.

Find answers about getting started, medications, family support, Free and Premium, and your information.

Getting started

I’m not good with apps. Is it hard to use?

Most of the time you only need the Today screen: the next step and a large button to mark it done. Text can be made larger and reminders can be read aloud. Setting up the plan takes the most care, and it’s easier with someone beside you.

Is it only for surgery?

No. There are 42 recovery templates for after procedures and hospital stays, and 12 for ongoing routines with no end date. You can also build a plan from scratch.

Can I use dischargeRx for an ongoing condition, not just a recovery?

Yes. Alongside time-boxed recovery plans, dischargeRx builds an open-ended Maintenance Plan for conditions you manage indefinitely — blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cholesterol, asthma, COPD, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, thyroid, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson's, and depression or anxiety. Every condition you add folds into that same plan rather than starting a new one, and progress shows as a day-by-day streak instead of a countdown. When a recovery plan finishes, the medications you keep taking can move across to it.

How do document scanning and extraction work?

With an account, an internet connection and an available extraction service, when you scan or upload care papers, dischargeRx sends the document to an AI extraction service to build a draft plan. Nothing becomes an active plan until you review and confirm it against your doctor's orders.

Medications and reminders

Will it tell me which medicine to take?

No. It holds the instructions your care team gave you. Templates leave every medicine as “As prescribed” until you enter your own, and nothing is scheduled until you confirm the plan.

Does dischargeRx give medical advice?

No. dischargeRx helps you follow the instructions your care team already gave you. It is not a pharmacy, a medication database, or a source of medical advice, and it does not detect drug interactions. You review and confirm every step of your plan.

What if my phone is on silent?

That depends on the phone. dischargeRx checks its notification permission and settings, shows a banner when reminders can’t reach you as set, and explains how to fix it.

Family helpers

Can I help my mother from another city?

Yes, once she invites you and you join with the code. You’ll see whatever she has allowed when you open the app. You won’t get push notifications, so agree how you’ll check in.

Does my family have to pay?

No. Helpers are free. If you choose Premium, one subscription covers everyone in the circle.

Subscriptions and billing

Is dischargeRx free?

Yes. Your daily plan, your reminders, and your family care circle are free, and so is your first document scan. Premium ($4.99/mo or $49.99/yr) adds document scanning beyond that first one, refill tracking, several active plans at once, the Recovery Timeline, and doctor-visit PDF reports. If Premium lapses, you return to the free plan and your essential reminders keep going.

These are the existing planned USD prices. Public store listings are not configured yet; your store will show the available offer and localized price before you confirm.

Privacy and account management

What happens to my information?

Your plan works from the copy on your phone. Setup explains that dischargeRx backs it up, with a “Keep it on this phone only” option in Settings. Helpers see only the care you allow once connected. Your information is never sold or used for advertising. You can export or erase it from Settings. Read the Privacy Policy.

Who can see my information?

Helpers see only the permissions you grant after they accept your invitation and their account is connected. You can change access, pause or remove them. Your plan works from your phone; setup explains backup and the phone-only option in Settings. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I export or delete my data?

In Settings, export your care data as a spreadsheet. Premium doctor-visit reports are PDFs. You can erase your data and its backup, or choose “Keep it on this phone only” to remove the backup while keeping the plan on your device. Full account deletion is permanent. Deleting an account does not cancel a store subscription. Read the account deletion steps.
